We usually try not to give out sad reasons sto drink, but we couldn’t help ourselves today. In 2004 Dimebag Darrell was buried. Several thousand fans attended the funeral. Dime was buried in a Kiss Kasket along with his original yellow and black stripes guitar. Having been shot a couple of days earlier at a gig he was playing. Dime was one of the original founders of Pantera. After they broke up he went on to form Damageplan with his brother Vinnie Paul. Dime was known as a heavy drinker. Often giving out shots to his fellow band mates, and whoever was in reach. We’ll have a couple of Blacktooth Grins to remember Dime today. 1970, and a little band known as Aerosmith plays their first gig at Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts. It would be a while till they made it big, but they were on their way. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, were known as the Toxic Twins, due to their rampant use of drugs both on and off stage, which was a “toxic” combination that almost ended their careers and their lives. To celebrate the beginning of one of the biggest bands out there, we recommend a Boston Sidecar. 3/4 oz brandy 3/4 oz white rum 3/4 oz triple sec 1/2 oz lime juice Shake with ice and strain into cocktail glass. You might even already know this drink as “Between the Sheets”.

It was 1605 when Guy Fawkes and 12 other men tried to burn down the parliament. several days earlier, on October 26th Lord Monteagle received an anonymous letter warning him to stay away, and to “retyre youre self into yowre contee whence yow maye expect the event in safti for … they shall receyve a terrible blowe this parleament”. Despite quickly becoming aware of the letter – informed by one of Monteagle’s servants – the conspirators resolved to continue with their plans, as it appeared that it “was clearly thought to be a hoax” On November 5th, Fawkes and his crew were captured and arrested. Despite being one of 13, only Fawkes was tried and executed. Londoners, were encouraged to light bonfires to to celebrate the escape of the assassination of the King. Also known as Mischief night, Devil’s night is always the day … er … night, before Halloween. Teens, and Pre-Teens are known to play pranks on their neighbors, and friends. These pranks include, decorating trees with toilet paper, throwing eggs at people, Ding-dong-Ditch, and many other mischievous pranks. Although it was mostly fun and games, Devil’s night escalated into full blown crimes, mainly arson. Especially in Detroit between the 1970′s and 1990′s. Things have gotten so bad, the city founded Angel’s night. Citizens and officials patrolling the streets in order to stop these activities. To celebrate Devil’s night may we recommend a Devil’s Cocktail. Devil’s Cocktail 1 oz tawny port 3/4 oz dry vermouth 1 dash lemon juice 1 twist lemon peel Stir well over ice cubes in a mixing glass. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, add a twist of lemon peel, and serve.

Vikings vs. 49ers. 1964. Vikings Defensive End Jim Marshall recovers a fumble, and runs the wrong way to score a Safety for the 49ers. Jim Marshall was considered a daredevil back then, skydiving, snow mobile expeditions (which left one of his friends dead), to being struck by encephalitis, to accidentally shooting himself, all the way to crashing in a hand glider accident. No one really knows whether day is for the nuts in an asylum, nuts in a shell, or nuts and screws. One thing we know is that it is today. And, we’ll probably try and mix all three together. Off to the insane asylum, and we’ll fed a nut a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, while we loosen his screws a little bit more. We won’t go too craz … nutty on the drink today. Our recommendation will be the Screwdriver. And if you need a recipe for that cocktail, you’re nutty as well. Screwdriver 1 part vodka 4 parts OJ Mix and serve over ice.

Bela Lugosi, is known mostly for his roles starring in horror movies. And what is it that we like to do here, is watch horror movies whilst getting drunk. A long B.B.A. tradition, which still goes on to this day. Hungarian born, and starring in many of the silent films in 1917 and 1918, Lugosi left Hungary and came to the U.S.A. which he entered illegally in New Orleans. He later made his way up to New York and re-entered, legally this time at Ellis Island. In honor of Lugosi’s birthday today, may we suggest “The Mad Hungarian” 4oz shots Rum 12 oz Root beer Pour rum over ice in a beer mug. Top with root beer.

It was 1959, when the Scotch-Club opened it’s doors to the public as the first discotheque. Now almost 50 years later, we still head to discotheques every weekend. We just call the clubs now. Discotheques gave way to Disco music. And it’s getting worse every year with all that crap that’s coming out, but this is a booze and food blog. So we’ll focus on the bar. As bartenders started making different cocktails, to wow the ladies. Cause what’s a Discotheque without ladies? A sausage-fest in bell bottoms. To celebrate tonight, may we recommend a Disco Fizz. 0.5 Measure, De Kuyper Blue Curaçao 1 Measure, Pineapple Juice 1 Dash, Lemon Juice 0.5 Measure, Elderflower Cordial Champagne Pour all the ingredients into a Champagne flute and top up with Champagne.

Michaelmas day, is considered the day Satan fell from heaven, landing on a blackberry bush. As legend goes, after falling on the blackberry bush, Satan, proceeded to urinate on them. After relieving himself, Satan went on to build his kingdom of darkness, where he filled the streets with loose women, filled the bars with booze, and declared heavy metal in the name of hell. Sure sounds like Exarchia. Sex, Drugs and Rock n’ Roll. All combined on this day. Celebrate this day with your fellow minions, and share a Blackberry Sip. Since this isn’t ready bought we’ll give you the recipe for this cocktail. 2 parts Blackberry Brandy 2 parts Vodka 1 part Sour Mix Shake in a Shaker, and serve in a chilled Martini glass. Men should drink this out of a Pint Glass. Can’t look fruity in front of the Devil’s minions now.
